Though networks require initial costs and infrastructure support, they can facilitate collaboration and expedite impact. Through an examination of a network of nonprofits and foundations working on climate issues, the article examines the efficacy and value of networks, finding two distinct advantages:
Leveraged Dollars: When the network was started, the founding organization contributed almost all of the funds, but after 10 years, member organizations had contributed three times the founding organization’s total contributions.
Strategic and Flexible: The information shared by partners allowed the network’s focus to shift with emerging opportunities.
